In 1938, the company was founded as Fujikura Kagaku Mfg. Co., Ltd., a manufacturer primarily of aircraft windshield glass and aircraft coatings, in a spinoff from Fujikura Mfg. Co., Ltd. (now FUJIKURA COMPOSITES Inc.). Later, the company was renamed Fujikura Kasei Co., Ltd. in December 1958.

Fujikura Kasei was listed on the 2nd Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in August 1962. Later, in March 2001, the company was listed on the 1st Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The company is currently listed on the Standard Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
