Sep. 1938

Founded as Fujikura Kagaku Mfg. Co., Ltd., a manufacturer primarily of aircraft windshield glass (methyl methacrylate) and aircraft coatings, in a spinoff from Fujikura Mfg. Co., Ltd. (now FUJIKURA COMPOSITES Inc.)

Sep. 1943

Absorbed Kataoka Toryo Co., Ltd. to strengthen the production and sales framework of general coatings.

Oct. 1945

Name changed to Fuji Kasei Co., Ltd.

Sep. 1957

Released “DOTITE,” an electroconductive paste developed jointly with the Electrical Communication Laboratory of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (now NTT).

Dec. 1958

Name changed to “Fujikura Kasei Co., Ltd.”

Aug. 1962

Listed on the 2nd Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

May 1963

Opened Kyushu Branch.

Sep. 1964

Opened Osaka and Nagoya Branches.

1970s

Jan. 1971

Opened Sano Plant in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture.

Feb. 1972

Entered into a technical tie-up with Red Spot Paint & Varnish Co., Inc. (U.S.) in the areas of coatings for plastics and coating materials.

May 1973

Entered into a technical tie-up with Plastalloy Inc. (U.S.) in the area of water-borne elastic coatings.

May 1973

Completed full transfer of the production department of the Itabashi Plant in Tokyo to the Sano Plant in Tochigi.

Oct. 1973

Entered into a technical tie-up with Weber-Chemie GmbH (West Germany) in the area of naphtha-soluble exterior wall coatings.

Feb. 1974

Entered into a technical tie-up with Rayco Inc. (U.S.) together with Nichimen Jitsugyo K.K.

Apr. 1974

Entered into a technical tie-up with Harco Cosmic (U.K.) in the area of water-borne multicolor coatings.

Nov. 1974

Built depot and color matching plant in the Chukyo region.

Jun. 1975

Established a water-borne coatings center at Sano Plant and commenced operations.

Mar. 1979

Consolidated and relocated headquarters, including the Administrative Division and the Tokyo Sales Office, to Shibakoen in Tokyo’s Minato Ward.

1980s

Jun. 1981

Granted license on coatings for sputtering technology to Farkas Engineering (France).

Aug. 1981

Established a business partnership with Imperial Ltd. (U.S.) in the area of energy plant-related coating materials.

Nov. 1981

Established a new technology research laboratory at Sano Plant.

Oct. 1982

Established Chukyo Paint Service Co., Ltd.

Nov. 1982

Entered into a technical tie-up with McNaughton-Brooks Ltd. (Canada).

Jan. 1984

Granted license on coatings for plastics technology to Korea Chemical Co., Ltd.

May 1984

Establish Fujichemical Co., Ltd. as a sales subsidiary for architectural coatings.

Sep. 1984

Established second type M Acrybase center at Sano Plant.

July 1985

Established local subsidiary Polytribo Inc. in the U.S. with Rohm and Haas Company (U.S.), as a joint venture company in the area of toner binder resins.

July 1986

Established Fujichemi Tokyo Co., Ltd. as a sales company for architectural coatings in the East Japan region.

Apr. 1987

Entered into a technical tie-up with Red Spot Paint & Varnish Co., Inc. (U.S.) in the area of suede-like coatings.

Nov. 1987

Entered into a technical tie-up with Karl Wörwag Lack- und Farbenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG (West Germany) in the area of soft-feeling paints.

1990s

July 1990

Opened Washinomiya Branch in Washimiya-cho, Saitama Prefecture.

Jun. 1995

Established Sano Plant 2 and commenced operation of DOTITE® plant.

July 1995

Opened Singapore Liaison Office.

May 1996

Reorganized Singapore Liaison Office and established local subsidiary Fujikura Kasei (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Jun. 1996

Established Washinomiya R&D Center.

Jun. 1997

Opened Bangkok Liaison Office.

Feb. 1999

Obtained ISO 9001 certification.

2000s

Apr. 2000

Formed a comprehensive three-way global alliance in the field of coatings for plastics with Red Spot Paint & Varnish Co., Inc. (U.S.) and Sonneborn & Rieck Ltd. (UK).

Nov. 2000

Completed new water-borne plant and distribution center at Sano Plant.

Nov. 2000

Obtained ISO 14001 certification.

Mar. 2001

Stock listing promoted to the 1st Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Closed local subsidiary in Singapore.

Consolidated Tsukuba Bio R&D Center into Washinomiya R&D Center.

Established Kuki Logistics Center in Kuki City, Saitama Prefecture.
